The Government has published a White Paper setting out proposals for The Great Repeal Bill.
The Great Repeal Bill White Paper is distinct from the publication earlier this year, of a Government White Paper outlining the 12 negotiating objectives for exiting the European Union.
The Great Repeal Bill White Paper sets out the government’s proposals for ensuring a functioning statute book once we have left the EU.
It provides the detail about:
- The repeal of the European Communities Act 1972
- How EU law will be converted into UK law
- How corrections will be made to the statute book, to ensure the law continues to function once we have left the EU
The Great Repeal Bill will maximise certainty for businesses, workers, investors and consumers across the whole of the UK as we leave the EU; and ensure accountability for the powers contained in the Bill.
The Bill will have to pass through Parliament. As I have throughout the Brexit process I will continue to press to ensure the views of residents in Bath are put forward robustly. Should I be re-elected on June 8th I will continue to consult residents and put forward their views to ensure complete parliamentary oversight.
