I appreciate the concerns of my constituents who contacted me regarding the centenary of the Balfour declaration and the recent Westminster Hall debate.
During this Parliament, we are marking a series of events and decisions that took place during and after World War One. This set of events includes the Balfour declaration, concerning the creation of the state of Israel. I am pleased that the UK enjoys a close and productive relationship with Israel, and I am proud of the role that Britain played in supporting the birth of that state. However, the fact that the Oslo accords remain incomplete reminds us that there is still work to do to honour the declaration in full. I hope and trust that the international community will continue its efforts to support a comprehensive peace agreement in the region, which protects the safety and security of all parties involved.
