The English Coastal Path Project aim to open a new national trail all around England’s coasts. I firmly support the project and am assured that the Government shares this commitment. It is worthwhile not only so more people can explore and enjoy our coastlines, but, as we in Bath particularly know, for the many benefits that tourism brings to local economies. I am pleased that momentum is building to make it a reality.
Good progress continues to be made on coastal access and the Path has been implemented on four stretches of the coast in Cumbria, Dorset and Norfolk, and in Durham, Hartlepool and Sunderland.
While there is no set timetable for the Path's completion, the Government is implementing coastal access step by step, tailoring the amount of activity to the resources available. It is applying lessons learned at earlier stages to make sure the project provides good value for taxpayers' money and I look forward to seeing the completed
