I want every child in the UK to have the opportunity to fulfil their potential, no matter where they live or their circumstances. Providing educational excellence everywhere is at the heart of this Government's plans and I am pleased to see per pupil funding in the dedicated schools grant and pupil premium rates protected for the duration of this Parliament.
In our manifesto – which was launched last week - The Conservative Party committed to investing an extra £4bn in our schools by 2022, and ensuring school funding is fair. We are offering a free breakfast to all primary school children, and we will make sure all those who need it still get free lunches – meaning the most disadvantaged children will now get two free school meals a day rather than one. However, we don’t think it is right to spend precious resources on subsidising school meals for better off parents. So instead we will give that money to head teachers, to spend on pupils’ education.
