Prospective Conservative MP, Ben Howlett, this week welcomed Greg Clarke, the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to Bath. Greg and Ben visited Innovation Quays where 9000 new jobs are being created in Bath in a joint project between the Local Enterprise Partnership and the local authority. During his time as the MP, Ben has worked tirelessly to bring new jobs to the city and support local businesses.
Ben in particular has been keen to highlight Bath as a high technical hub and to attract and support associated businesses in the city.
Greg Clarke described Ben as being a “champion” for Bath during his time as MP and said of the project
“Bath is a world renowned hub for tech and innovation. It is so important to have spaces where people can come together and collaborate and there couldn’t be a better example of the modern industrial strategy in practice.”
Ben and the Minister discussed the opportunities for Bath to attract additional funding to develop more local projects from the extra £2 billion a year in innovation and research funds announced if there is a Conservative government on Friday.
Ben said of the visit
“During this campaign I have welcomed a large number of cabinet ministers to Bath to highlight projects that will bring further investment into Bath as well as visit those projects that are underway because of investment from the current Conservative administration. Only the Conservatives have a viable economic plan that will secure more jobs and investment here in Bath. I very much hope I have the opportunity to continue championing Bath in Westminster.”
