Ben Howlett, prospective Conservative MP for Bath, visited the 125th anniversary celebrations for Norland College at the Assembly Rooms in Bath. The Heritage Day celebrations allowed final year students at Norland College to showcase their work and pay tribute to the founder and continued success of Norland College. Parents and friends were invited to attend, as well as current and alumni students.
Norland College is one of the most prestigious colleges for nannies in the world and currently has around 250 students enrolled, learning about early years development and cutting edge childcare techniques. It is one of Bath’s more conspicuous educational institutions, with the iconic ‘Mary Poppins’ uniform and exceptional worldwide reputation.
The Heritage Day celebrations featured performances from the Norland Choir, video celebrating the journey of Norland over the years and an exhibition of artefacts dating back to 1892, including a notebook owned by founder Emily Ward.
Ben said of the event, “It is a privilege to come and meet some of these dedicated and hardworking young people, so committed to the care of children. Their professional presentations and exhibitions of their work are of an incredibly high standard and I have no doubt they will go on to do incredible things after leaving Norland. The staff clearly care a great deal for each individual student and manage to bring out the best in everyone at the College.
“Having Norland College in Bath is a great privilege, as its ethos and high standards for care and community reflect the values of the wider city. I can only see Norland going from strength to strength into the future and look forward to seeing increased diversity and growing numbers in the coming years.”
Dr Janet Rose, Principal of Norland College, said: “It was our pleasure to welcome Ben Howlett to Norland’s Heritage Day, an annual celebration of our final year students’ work in this special 125th anniversary year. Since moving to Bath in 2003, Norland Nannies have become part of the city’s fabric and we’re thrilled to further cement our commitment to the community by investing in the city, as we move teaching and learning to a new college facility in Oldfield Park this September whilst retaining our iconic premises on London Road.”
